BECHTELSVILLE, PA March 21, 2009 . . . The 47th consecutive season of professional stock car racing gets the green flag on Saturday, March 28th at Grandview Speedway with the running of a free-to-the-public practice session starting at noon.
Many of the NASCAR 358 Modified and Late Model teams planning to be regulars in the Saturday night action on the one-third-mile, banked clay oval are expected to be on hand for the test and tune session. It is the last opportunity for the racers to get their equipment ready for the long season ahead.
In addition to the modifieds and late models there will be a variety of other racers on hand including sprint cars, midgets, Legends and more. The 2008 practice session attracted more than 100 race teams.
“We are anticipating a very strong season at Grandview in 2009,” said track promoter Bruce Rogers. “We have a number of new teams planning to be with us on Saturday night both in the modifieds and the late models. I think the championship battle in both divisions will be tight this season.”
The chase for the lucrative point championships will kick off on Saturday, April 4th, 7 p.m. with a full show of NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models. The Modifieds top their show with a 40-lap feature paying $3,000 to win while the Late Models race in a 20-lap main event.
Jeff Strunk will be seeking his eighth track title but will have stiff competition from the likes of Doug Manmiller, Craig VonDohren, Danny Hieber, Billy Pauch Jr., Mike Gular, Meme DeSantis, Kerry Kratz, Jon Kellner Sr. and a host of others.
The late models will be led by defending champion Chuck Schutz as Ron Kline, Randy Stoudt, Mike Kellner, Greg Hoffmaster, Wayne Pfeil and others try to take the title away from him.
Throughout the season there will be some added excitement on Saturday nights when URC Sprints, ARDC Midgets, Legends and other classes of competition are added to the shows.
Money saving season passes are available for the entire Saturday night schedule of events for just $275.
There has been no increase in admission prices for the weekly stock car racing events with adults admitted for $13. Youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $5 and under 6 are admitted FREE when accompanied by a paying adult. Fans are invited to bring their own refreshments (no glass bottles). There is always free parking on the speedway grounds. A non-alcohol section is available.
A full 2009 schedule can be found at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
The track is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688
