BECHTELSVILLE, PA SEPTEMBER 16, 2011 . . . Those coming out early for the 41st annual BPG Racing Freedom 76 will have plenty to keep them busy as Pete Knappenberger has put together another fun filled Auto Glass Specialties Freedom Fan Fest on the grounds of the Grandview Speedway on Saturday (September 17).
Activities for the Fan Fest will get started at 1 p.m. and all the action will take place in the first turn area outside the pits and outside the first turn grandstand area.
Adults and kids will have fun with a display of race cars, driver interviews, drawings for a Michael Vick (Eagles) jersey and Pittsburgh Steelers sideline jacket, drawing for Line-X truck bed liner, and country/bluegrass music presented by past BPG Racing Freedom 76 winner Roger Knappenberger and his band. For the kids there will be dime toss games, favorite driver poster contest, lollipop tree, pop-a-balloon with a dart contest and more. The planned dunk tank has been canceled due to the forecast of chilly weather.
Topping the afternoon session will be the presentation of the Racer’s Roundtable.com Driver of the Year award.
Driver merchandise will be available along with BPG Racing Freedom 76 t-shirts and special editions of the Grandview Groove featuring more color photos than ever before.
The Fan Fest will conclude at 4 p.m. There is no charge to participate in the Fan Fest.
Once the Fan Fest is over fans having advance tickets for the Freedom 76 will be allowed to enter the speedway. At 4:30 p.m. the ticket offices will open.
Adult admission is $30, youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $10 and children under 6 are admitted FREE. Pit passes are $40 and no NASCAR license is needed. Pits will open at 10 a.m. There is free parking on the grounds of the speedway and across the street there is parking available for a small fee. Rain date is set for September 24th and if needed will follow the same schedule.
No roping off of areas is permitted and campfires are against township law.
Warm-ups for the race will start at 5:30 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m.
“I have had the privilege of announcing every one of the Freedom 76 races and each one has been exciting,” said track announcer and PR person Ernie Saxton. “However I think that with the all star lineup of racing talent, the cool weather (great for racing motors and track conditions), and the fan interest that we have had in the last couple of weeks this could very well be the most exciting of them all. I know that I am looking forward to being in the booth and calling the action.”
A full slate of qualifying heats (each winner getting a case of beer courtesy of Beer City in Quakertown, PA), consolation racers, the Schaefer Motorsports Minuteman 20 and the $1,000 to win Mertz Flying Mullet Cash Dash will lead up to the finale, the 41st running of the BPG Racing Freedom 76.
Information on the race and the Fan Fest can be had by telephoning 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com. The one-third-mile, banked clay dirt track is located at 43 Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, just 10 miles north of Pottstown.
