Press Release
VERTICAL WAVE TELEPHONE SYSTEMS TO EXCITE FANS AT 2012 THUNDER ON THE HILL EVENTS, SEIRES TO OPEN WEDNESDAY, MAY 23RD
Monday, April 30, 2012

The 23rd season of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will take the green flag on Wednesday night, May 23 at the Grandview Speedway with the always popular double-header to include the 410 Sprints and the 358 Modifieds. This event will mark the one-hundred and third Thunder event presented at Grandview Speedway.

Of special interest for the always important Thunder on the Hill race fans, Vertical Wave Telephone Systems will be returning to the hill and offering as many as twelve $25 gas cards in a variety of giveaway promotions at each Thunder Show. Jim Gallagher of Vertical Wave continues to be a good friend to all who take part in the wildly popular Thunder on the Hill Series. Jim can easily be found on race night at the front gate or taking lead with the nightly Inside/Out Promotion, where race fans have an opportunity to watch warm-ups from the infield. For all your phone communication needs, reach out to Vertical Wave at 800-479-0955.

In 2012, the Modified feature winner of each Thunder on the Hill event will earn a dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse located on Hamilton Blvd (Route222) in Trexlertown, PA. At least one other bonus is soon to be announced for the Modifieds in the coming Thunder Series.

The 410 Sprints are always a “thrill on the hill” and the May 23rd outing will mark the first race of the Keystone Cup Sprint Series. Expected entries chasing the $5,000 winner’s share include Fred Rahmer of Salfordsville, PA, Greg Hodnett, Chad Layton, Justin Henderson, Lance Dewease, Brian Montieth, Logan Schuchart, Mark Smith, Brent Marks, Daryn Pittman and defending event winner Brian Leppo.

How tough is it to win a 410 Sprint feature at Grandview?

Lance Dewease is a ten time winner at Thunder on the Hill, yet his last win came in 2003. Fred Rahmer owns nine Thunder victories and his last visit to the Thunder Series podium was in 2008. And Greg Hodnett, a four time winner on the hill last parked in victory lane in 2003. Brian Leppo scored his first Thunder win last year and would like nothing more then to duplicate that effort. You just can’t make mistakes at Grandview, especially with the 410 sprints turning laps in the eleven second bracket.

The 358 Modifieds will complete in a series of qualifying events all leading up to the 25 lap feature event. This event will certainly be viewed by some out-siders as a test and tune for the September 15 BPG $50,000 to win Freedom 76. Regulars expected to be in the field include Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Craig Vondohren, Doug Manmiller, Kevin Hirthler, MeMe DeSantis and Brad Missimer.

Adult admission tickets are $22, children 6-11 $5 and children 5 and under will be admitted for free. The pit fee is $30 and a license is not required.

Advance tickets for the May 23rd will be on sale at Grandview Speedway the two Saturday nights (May 12 and May 19) prior to the May 23rd NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Series Opener.

NAPA Auto Parts will return for their twentieth consecutive year as the lead Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Sponsor. Other sponsors on-board for the coming season include Vertical Wave Telephone Systems, Pioneer Pole Buildings LLC, Lee Myles Transmissions, BPG/Chad Sinon Motorsports and the Fairgrounds Square Mall.

And don’t forget, the nationally known Amsoil USAC National Wingless Sprints will return to the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 5 for the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic. Also on the program will be the ARDC Midgets with race time set for 7:30 PM. Some say, just watching the USAC wingless sprints time trial at Grandview is worth the price of admission.. Defending winner Bobby East will return to defend his win on the “hill”.
