MOTHER NATURE CONTINUES TO CREATE HAVOC WITH LOCAL RACING GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY RAINED OUT FOR THIRD TIME

BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 24 . . . Rain, a forecast for more rain, absolutely horrendous wet grounds, and cold weather forced event organizer Bruce Rogers to postpone the Rossi Welding Night, featuring the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds and Late Models, until Saturday, May 31, 7:30 p.m.

“Even if it did not rain again today the grounds are so wet that we could not get equipment on the track. It is always tough when we have to call off a night of racing. This is our third rainout of the season. However I don’t feel too bad. Williams Grove Speedway has lost 13 events to weather this season. Our “sister track” Big Diamond Raceway has been rained out four Fridays in a row. I am sure there have been years when the weather has created such havoc for local racing but I can’t remember when. We’ll just be ready with the same show next Saturday,” said event organizer Bruce Rogers.

The Saturday, May 31st show will again be sponsored by Rossi Welding of Reading, PA. “We were fortunate to have this Saturday with no sponsor so Rossi Welding was able to just carry over there plans. This is a special event for Joe Rossi. He is running this night in memory of his son Joey who passed away about 10 years ago and was a big fan of auto racing and an ardent fan of modified racer Kenny Brightbill,” said track public relations person Ernie Saxton.

The May 31st show, with a 7:30 p.m. starting time, will feature the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds and Late Models. Jeff Strunk is the current point leader in the chase for the very lucrative NASCAR Modified title at Grandview Speedway. The Bethel, PA racer, driving the BPG Racing/Chad Sinon Motorsports #88, is the defending champion. He leads Jon Kellner of Lansdale, PA by just 12 points. Both drivers have won features in the early part of the season. Meme DeSantis, Temple, is third in the chase for the crown, 33 points behind.

Feature winners this season, in addition to Kellner and Strunk, include DeSantis, Larry Solomon and Kenny Gilmore.

Ray Swinehart, operator of J&L Speedway Equipment in Bechtelsville, PA, is on top in the Late Model standings. Swinehart has a feature win to his credit as he chases the Late Model crown for the first time in his Bernheisel chassis; P.K.Moyer & Son sponsored #33. Swinehart has 1354 points is just 80 points in front of two time and defending late model champion Lou Egrie of Willow Grove, PA.

Coming up on Saturday, June 7th, is the only regular Saturday night show appearance of the season for the United Racing Club sprint cars along with the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds. It is all sponsored by Zuber Realty Inc. More than 30 of the exciting sprint cars are expected to be part of the 7:30 p.m. show.

And on Saturday, June 14th, the U.S.Army is sponsoring the Modifieds and Late Models with some special attractions. It will be the perfect opportunity to sign up for a stint in the U.S. Army and see an exciting night of racing. Grandview Speedway, one of the most popular sports attractions in Berks County, is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA 10 miles north of Pottstown.
