Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Duane Howard, extended his point lead and his season win record on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. Howard, the current NASCAR Whelen All-American Series modified point leader at the 1/3-mile Berks County oval, scored his sixth victory in the 30-lap ?Summer Splash? event sponsored by Bashore Trucking and BFP Specialty.


Mike Laise, who recorded his first career win July 9, 2011, was the early race leader trailed by Bobby Gunther-Walsh, Chris Esposito, Jeremy Banos and Jon Kellner, already a feature winner this year.


Esposito, winless since Sept. 29, 2008, emerged as the new leader on the fourth lap while Laise, Banos, Keith Brightbill and Kellner jockeyed for the remaining positions.


Ryan Grim found himself facing the wrong direction on the second turn for the seventh lap caution. The restart was void when Jeff Strunk, spun in the second turn and triggered a multi-car accident. When action went green again, Esposito was still at the head of the pack.


Brightbill overtook second on the ninth lap to challenge Esposito for the lead and a possible win since he has been shut out of victory lane since Sept. 28, 2002.


Esposito ran the high line and Brightbill challenged from the inside lane as the pair diced for first. Behind them the battle for the remaining positions brewed between Kellner, Laise and Howard, who made his way into the top five by the 12th lap from his 15th starting grid.


The running order at the Dan?s Deli ?-way hoagie mark consisted of Esposito, Howard, Brightbill, Kellner and Laise.
