Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Craig Von Dohren, in the lead and Duane Howard, second, swapped paint for several laps beginning on the 24th lap of the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series modified feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. Neither driver lifted because they were determined to be ahead. Coming out of the fourth turn with Von Dohren on the outside and Howard down low, the side-by-side contact continued, the cars were out of shape and Howard emerged as the new leader on the 28th lap. Howard managed to keep Von Dohren behind him and went on to score his fourth win of the season in the event sponsored by Whelen Engineering. Mike Laise led for three laps before Brad Missimer took over the top spot on the fourth circuit.
Battling for second through fifth behind Missimer, who was distancing himself, were Laise, Jeremy Banos, Gary Hager and Glenn Strunk. Positions were constantly changing behind Missimer, who started fourth,
and by the tenth lap the order behind him consisted of Ryan Godown, Von Dohren, Howard and Banos, tenth, 16th, 15th and third-place starters respectively.
At the Dan?s Deli 1/2-way hoagie mark award with Missimer in front, Godown, Howard, Von Dohren and Meme DeSantis completed the top five. Attempting to get into a top five position was Jeff Strunk and he did on the 21st lap.
Missimer?s sizeable lead was being cut into by the 22nd lap as lap cars allowed Godown to reel Missimer in.
The pack was regrouped on the 23rd lap when John Willman slowed his pace on the backstretch bringing out the caution. On the restart Von Dohren made a daring move from fourth into the lead. Howard came through for second as Godown was shuffled to third, Missimer fourth and J. Strunk fifth. Now the paint exchange began between Von Dohren and Howard with J. Strunk, Godown and DeSantis anticipating an incident in hopes of advancing a spot.
Von Dohren held the lead on the outside while Howard ran the low line trying to unseat him.
On the 28th lap as Von Dohren and Howard exited the fourth turn with both cars sideways Howard was able to take over the lead.
Howard held onto first the remaining laps to put the BPG Racing No. 4 in victory lane for the fourth time and he also earned the Hard Charger award with Von Dohren a close second. J. Strunk hung on for third
followed by Godown and DeSantis, coming off a win the previous night at Big Diamond Raceway, Minersville. Sixth through tenth were Missimer, G. Strunk, Mike Gular, Kyle Weiss and Don Norris Jr., who received the Cargo Trailers award.
