Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Kevin Hirthler and Jeff Strunk battled side-by-side for eight laps before Strunk got his nose in front to stay with two laps remaining in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series modified feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. Strunk managed to hold off Hirthler?s bids and pulled the Norm Hansell-owned No. 357 into victory lane for his second win at the 1/3-mile oval in the event sponsored by Hatfield Quality Meats and televised by RCN-TV. Before the first lap could be completed Duane Howard was spun in the second turn bringing out the caution. When action resumed Dan Waisempacher was the early leader trailed by Ryan Grim, Bobby Gunther-Walsh, Brad Grim and Kyle Follweiler.

Ryan Grim took over the top spot on the second circuit to become the new pacesetter.

By the 11th lap R. Grim had a sizeable lead built up with the order behind him comprised of Waisempacher, Hirthler, Strunk and B. Grim. At the conclusion of the Dan?s Deli 1/2-way hoagie award, Craig Von Dohren, coming off a victory at Big Diamond Raceway the previous night, moved into the top five.

Brad Missimer, Mike Laise and Chris Esposito tangled on the backstretch on the 19th lap with Laise hitting the wall with heavy impact. All drivers were uninjured, however, Laise and Missimer were through for the night, but Esposito continued. On the restart R. Grim went up too high coming out of the fourth turn which allowed Hirthler and Strunk to get by him.

From that point on Hirthler, on the outside and Strunk, down low, ran door-to-door without incident proving it can be done. Waiting for either one to falter and advance were Von Dohren, R. Grim and Gular. Coming on strong after going to the rear at the start was Howard as he moved into fifth on lap 26.

Several times it appeared Strunk would overtake Hirthler for the number one position, but Hirthler kept him at bay.

Finally on the 28th lap Strunk?s pass held and he was now the new leader. Hirthler didn?t surrender easily and made a valiant effort to regain control.

The lead never changed and Strunk pulled into the winner?s circle for another triumph with Hirthler, Von Dohren, who received the Hard Charger award; R. Grim and Howard chasing him across the line. Sixth through t
