BECHTELSVILLE, PA. ? Defending Grandview Speedway NASCAR Modified point champion Duane Howard went home with a hefty paycheck on Saturday night in the activities sponsored by Bashore Trucking. He won the Bashore Trucking/Pepsi One-On-One Challenge worth $1,500 and then wheeled the BPG/Bicknell chassis No. 4 to his seventh NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 30-lap Modified feature for $2750 with $250 from TP Trailers. Additional awards were the $50 Bobby Gunther-Walsh and sponsors Hard Charger, $150 or racing products from VP Petroleum for using gas plus the Dan?s Deli ?-way hoagie award.

Howard was pleased with the performance of the car since the team struggled the past two weeks and he appreciated the advice from VP rep on hand, Fred Turza. Even though Howard finished by a comfortable margin over runner-up Jordan Umbenhauer, who turned in his best performance, he was concerned with some of the lap traffic that pinched him close to the wall at times.

Tim Buckwalter, a rookie this season, overtook another rookie Andy Ressler on the third lap restart that eliminated Jeff Strunk when he was nailed from behind as cars tried to avoid the spinning Mark Kratz, who continued.

By the ninth lap Buckwalter and Mike Laise battled for first and the next circuit Laise was the new leader.

The action behind Laise was hot and heavy between Buckwalter, Howard, on the move from 14th; Umbenhauer and Ressler.

Howard overtook Laise for the lead on the 12th lap and wasted no time pulling away from the pack.

Lap traffic came into play by the 20th lap and the top five that now consisted of Umbenhauer, Laise, Mike Gular and Jarrad Miller had to use caution since the slower cars were also racing for positions running the high line.
