TRACY READINGER GETS FIRST CAREER WIN IN NASCAR MODIFEDS AND JASON MILLER EARNS SECOND WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA JULY 31, 2004 . . . “I was getting the feeling it was never going to happen,” said Tracy Readinger after winning his first NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. Readinger, who calls Oley, PA home has been racing at the Berks County clay oval since 1988 and this was his career first modified feature race victory. Jason Miller of Germansville, PA was able to bring his RothRock Auto Sales #44 late model home for his second win of the season in the Craftsman Tools sponsored 20-lap Late Model feature race.
Mike Bailey was in charge at the drop of the green with Jimmy Reppert giving him a chase for the lead. With just three laps in the feature complete three feature winner Jon Kellner Sr. was at the back of the pack after being involved in second turn accident.
At five laps Mike Bailey was still in front of the pack with Reppert and Tracy Readinger giving chase. With eight laps in the record book Meme DeSantis was at the back of the field after a fourth turn incident.
Ten laps saw Bailey getting a serious challenge from Readinger and his D&S Archery sponsored #2T. On a 13th lap restart after a caution Readinger was able to grab the top spot from Bailey with Kevin Hartnett coming along in second spot.
For the balance of the race Readinger was able to maintain the lead but the closing laps saw current track champion and point leader Jeff Strunk charge up to second and put some serious pressure on the leader. The final laps were a close battle between Readinger and Strunk with Hartnett sticking the nose of his Berks Products #81 into the battle.
At the finish Readinger had a narrow margin over Strunk (Bethel) followed by Kevin Hartnett (strongest showing of the season for the Perkasie racer). Fourth place was earned by Jon Kellner Sr. The Lansdale racer came from last to fourth. And it was former champion Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville) getting fifth.
Feature winner Tracy Readinger used this race win to get ready for the $10,000 to win Stauffer Construction Forrest Rogers Memorial, 50 lap championship for modifieds, coming up this Saturday, August 7, 7:30 p.m. A full show of Late Model stock car racing will be included.
Jason Miller had things pretty much under control for the entire 20 lap feature for the NASCAR ShorTrack Late Models. Junior Grebe gave him some serious competition early in the main event. Chris Shuey, a four time winner, dropped out with mechanical woes on the 12th lap. Brian Shuey came up to put some pressure on Miller in the closing laps but when the green flag fell Miller had a comfortable margin of victory. Second spot went to Brain Shuey (Hamburg) followed by defending champion Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) followed by Ron Kline (Salfordville) and Rick Todorow (Quakertown).
Qualifying heat races for the Late Models were won by Steve Todorow, Junior Grebe and Chris Shuey. The Jim Brown Cash Dash went to Junior Grebe.
In the Modified preliminaries wins were earned by Jimmy Reppert, Rick Schaffer, Jon Kellner Sr., Doug Manmiller and Shawn Reimert. The consolation races went to Keith Brightbill, Jon Kellner Jr. and last week?s feature winner Sean Merkel. The Cheers Tavern Cash Dash went to Jon Kellner Sr.
