Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Meme DeSantis, behind the wheel of the Eastern Rigging No. 11, was seven laps short of a possible victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series modified feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.

John Tschudy was facing the wrong direction in turns three and four to bring out the yellow with 23 laps in the books.
At that time DeSantis was sent to the pits by officials with a left front tire issue. This put current point leader Jeff Strunk, who took over second one lap prior, into the lead. The defending champion led the rest of the way to win his fourth win of the season in the BPG No. 88. The event was sponsored by Maverick Motorcycles, an

organization car owner Chad Sinon is a member.

Todd Smith led for one lap before Sean Merkel overtook the top spot on the second lap restart needed when Doug Manmiller was spun in the fourth turn with Steve Young also involved.

With Merkel the new pacesetter, jockeying for positions behind him were Shawn Reimert, Smith, Tom Mayberry and Tschudy.

The red had to be thrown on the seventh lap for a third turn multi-car accident that blocked the track. The leader continued to be Merkel with the only change in the order being Kyle Weiss who was now fifth as Smith started to lose positions.

Weiss stopped between the third and fourth turn with a flat tire to bring out the yellow on lap ten. Ray Swinehart, last week?s feature winner, pitted at the same time and never returned to action. Merkel was still first on the restart, but now Reimert, Mayberry, DeSantis and Strunk held down second through fifth.

The yellow was thrown on the 17th lap when the fire truck was requested to the pits, but then cancelled. The restart was void as Jon Kellner sat in the second turn with a collapsed front end. On this restart DeSantis, who advanced to second on the 15th lap, charged past Merkel and into the lead with Merkel, Strunk, Mayberry and Reimert in pursuit.

The final caution brought out by Tschudy?s spin on the 23rd lap was definitely one DeSantis did not need. At that time DeSantis was sent to the pits with a tire problem giving the lead to Strunk.

Strunk maintained the lead on the restart while Merkel, Mayberry, Craig Von Dohren and Terry Meitzler battled for the remaining positions.

Merkel?s fine run ended when he pulled into the infield with a flat right rear tire.
Strunk never relinquished the lead and pulled into victory into victory lane for career win number 33. Posting a second place finish for his best run of the year was Mayberry followed by Von Dohren, Meitzler and Ryan Watt, who finally had a change of luck. Rounding out the top ten were Reimert, who also turned in a fine performance; Keith Brightbill, Mike Gular, Manmiller and Rick Schaffer.
