Race Results 08/30/2008

Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Craig Von Dohren piloted the Mike Harvey-owned/Felty Farms No. 1C to his sixth NASCAR Whelen All-American Racing Series modified feature victory of the season on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in the event sponsored by Green Lane Wm. Penn/4-Star Lettering. The race was dedicated to Joey Pratt, longtime Area Auto Racing News employee who recently passed away.

Polesitter Bobby Gunther-Walsh led for one lap before the red had to be thrown when Rick Schaffer flipped in the second turn. Schaffer was uninjured. Gunther-Walsh held his position on the restart trailed by Ryan Beltz, Chris Esposito, Kurt Spotts and Brad Missimer.

Chris Gambler brought out the next caution on the third lap when he spun coming off the fourth turn with several others involved. In addition to Gambler being out of contention, Kerry Kratz and Danny Erb were also sidelined for the night. Esposito was the new leader when action resumed with Missimer now moving into the runner-up spot.

The yellow was thrown for debris in the first and second turn with five laps completed. Missimer charged into the lead on the restart with Esposito, Von Dohren, Gunther-Walsh and Jeff Strunk in tow.

A multi-car accident in turns three and four slowed the field again on the 10th lap. Just as the yellow was thrown, a huge puff of smoke bellowed out of Missimer?s car and he was through for the night turning the lead over to Von Dohren. The restart was void as Jason Hamilton, who used a provisional start, spun between turns one and two. The next attempt had Von Dohren on the outside and Strunk on the inside and Von Dohren wasted no time moving the Main Engines powered machine out front to leave Strunk behind.

Within no time Von Dohren had a healthy lead built up leaving Strunk, Esposito, Meme DeSantis and Shawn Reimert chasing him down.

Lap cars slowed Von Dohren?s pace considerably by the 21st lap as they ignored the radio warning that the leader was coming plus didn?t heed the move-over flag and the lap cars continued racing one another. Their actions allowed Strunk to close the gap considerably and within no time he was right on Von Dohren?s bumper challenging.

Von Dohren overcame all the obstacles and withstood Strunk?s bids as he pulled the Kauffman?s Bar-B-Q Chicken machine into victory lane to score his 66th career win. Von Dohren also received the 1/2-way Dan?s Deli Hoagie Award. Finishing second for the third week in a row was Strunk followed by DeSantis, who received the CornerStone Auto Sales Hard Charger Award; Esposito and Reimert, who both scored their season best finishes. Rounding out the top ten were Doug Manmiller, who came back strong after a quick pit stop on the 10th lap restart; Ryan Godown, last week?s feature winner; Don Norris Jr., Jon Kellner and Ryan Beltz.
