YEAR 5 (1994) OF THUNDER ON THE HILL, KINSER TAKES FIRST THUNDER WoO WIN, DEWEASE, COVERDALE AND DUNSTAN SHARE TRIPLE HEADER, BILL BRIAN JR WINS KING OF THE HILL WITH LAST LAP PASS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA . . . . . . “No excuses, we just got beat,” said Andy Hillenburg after Steve Kinser made a last lap pass to win the 30 lap World of Outlaw event at Thunder on the Hill/Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, May 31, 1994. BECHTELSVILLE, PA 1993. . . . . . The fourth season of Thunder on the Hill opened with the CRA (California Racing Association) non- wing sprints for a $10,000 to win payoff in the 30 lap main event that attracted a field of thirty-eight non- wing sprints. The victory lane celebration looked the same as Billy Pauch parked the John Zemaitis sprinter in the winners’ circle. Rain was not a friend to the Thunder Series as the June 11 event was rained out just prior to the feature event. BECHTELSVILLE, PA Rain has often made an appearance at Thunder on the Hill and after rain delayed the feature event on June 11, Thunder on the Hill and Grandview Speedway were all set with twin 35 lap features on Tuesday night, July 30. This night came off after yes, a 70% chance of rain on race night. In the 35 lap 410 Sprint make up feature, Steve Smith charged from his tenth starting position to take the lead on lap twenty-eight and become a repeat Thunder on the Hill feature winner. BECHTELSVILLE, PA It was Tuesday night, September 18, 1990 when the second Thunder on the Hill event was presented at the Grandview Speedway. Driving the Glenn Hyneman 410 Sprint Car, Billy Pauch thrilled a full house with a last lap pass to earn his first Thunder on the Hill victory. Pauch started fourteenth in a field of twenty-four cars in the 35 lap main event. THUNDER ON THE HILL AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY, IT ALL STARTED IN 1990
October 9, 2023. . . . . . Leading up to the opening event of Thunder on the Hill in 2024, we will take a look back at the thirty-four year history and the 152 races that were presented at the Grandview Speedway. This series started after a meeting in mid-June 1990 at the Bally Hotel with Grandview Speedway Owner Bruce Rogers, Modified/Sprint Car driver Dave Kelly and race official and publicist Bob Miller. The decision was made to give one race a try on Tuesday night, August 7, 1990. “ At this meeting, we laid a foundation that today supports some of the region’s most prominent auto racing events,” said Bob Miller. “The story of Thunder on the Hill over the past three plus decades is fascinating, and one that I relish the opportunity to share. I’m fortunate, that my time in racing offered me the opportunity to watch all the years of the 126 movement. As a race official in some capacity, and at different tracks in the area, I have personally seen the impact this team had on local racing. Glenn and Boneita always pushed the envelope to be a better team always in the chase of a win, and in turn, they elevated their competitors both on the track and in the pits. JAKE SWANSON WINS FIRST THUNDER EVENT IN THE USAC NON-WING SPRINT CARS; STRUNK WINS MODIFIED FEATURE NUMBER SEVENTEEN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (June 13, 2023) – The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series kicked off the Amsoil National-touring USAC Non-Wing Sprint Car Series Eastern Storm on Tuesday night at Grandview Speedway in a spectacular double-header with the 358 Modifieds presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. The 40-lap USAC Jesse Hockett Classic was won by Jake Swanson collecting a $6,000 payday for his first Thunder on the Hill win, while the 358 Modified main event was won by Jeff Strunk claiming his 17th Thunder Series victory in the special event series. Strunk, driving the Glenn and Bonita Hyneman #126 earned $3,000 for his win in the 30 lap main event. A total purse in excess of $45,000 was distributed with thirty-one USAC Sprints and thirty-two 358 Modifieds taking part in the big evening of racing. - The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings will host the AMSOIL USAC National Non-Wing Sprints in opening night of the Eastern Storm, Tuesday night, June 13 at the Grandview Speedway, Bechtelsville, PA
- AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Series is highlighted with the $6,000 to win Jesse Hockett Classic plus the 358 NASCAR Modifieds doing battle in a 30 lap $3,000 to win main event.
- Gates open at 5 PM, Racing begins with qualifying at 7:30 PM
- This event will mark the 75th USAC Non-Wing Sprint event presented in Berks County.
- The first three USAC events were won by Tommy Hinnershitz of Oley, PA at the Reading Fairgrounds in April, June and September of 1956

THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES EVENTS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
Thunder on the Hill Racing Series events are held at Grandview Speedway, one of the most historic and celebrated dirt track venues in the Northeastern United States. Located just east of Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania, Grandview Speedway is a one-third-mile, high-banked clay oval that has hosted continuous professional stock car racing since opening in 1963.
Built by Forrest Rogers and operated by the Rogers family for multiple generations, the speedway has become known for its exciting, close-quarters racing and deep roots in grassroots motorsports. The track features weekly competition in divisions such as Modifieds and Sportsman and hosts a variety of special events and touring series throughout the season.

ABOUT THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES
Born from the vision of Grandview Speedway owner Bruce Rogers, special events promoter Bob Miller and local driving standout Dave Kelly, the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series has become one of the most anticipated traditions on the racing calendar.
Across more than 130 marquee events, nearly $6 million in prize money has been awarded to the region’s top competitors. What began as a single 410 Sprint Car showcase has grown into a premier destination for the sport’s biggest names and national touring series, including the High Limit Sprint Car Series, USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series, World of Outlaws, Super DIRTcar Series and the All-Star Circuit of Champions.
