RAIN CANCELS SATURDAY NIGHT RACING AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 14, 2004 . . . For just the second time this season rain washed out the Saturday night NASCAR stock car racing program at Grandview Speedway. The rains came just as the race teams were arriving and several visiting teams were on hand hoping to get an early start on their T.H.Properties Freedom 76 race game plan. That big event, paying $20,000, is the biggest of its kind in the area and is set for Saturday, September 11th. The rained out Harry?s U-Pull-It Auto Parts Night of Modified and Late Model stock car racing will be rescheduled for a later date.
The rainout did tighten up the point chase. The cancellation made for one less night of point racing. At present the point battle ends on September 4th. That means racers have one less night to earn the valuable championship chase points. The September 4th show will be the Chad Sinon Motorsports/BPG Racing Night for the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Model stock cars.
At present Jeff Strunk, with four feature wins to his credit, leads the battle with 4351 counters as he seeks his fourth track title at Grandview Speedway and his second with current car owner Chad Sinon (BPG Racing). Five time track champion Craig VonDohren is just 105 points behind Strunk in the point battle while Meme DeSantis, never a champion, is third at 4162. Also in the chase is Jon Kellner Sr., a four feature winner, with 3963 points.
With just three point races left in the season, at present, Kellner, Sr, who got off to a very slow start this season, is a long shot. The title chase seems to be down to a three way battle between Strunk, VonDohren and DeSantis.
In the NASCAR ShorTrack Late Models Chuck Schutz, a champion in 1998, has a big lead with a 522 point cushion over defending champion Randy Stoudt who has 4170 compared to the 4692 points that Schutz has earned.
Interesting fact is that in 2002 Stoudt was able to win more than a half dozen features and missed the title. In 2003 Stoudt had no wins and won the title. And this season Stoudt is the leading feature winner with five and may fall short in the championship chase to Chuck Schutz who presently has just one feature win.
Racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, August 21, 7:30 p.m. with 3M Night being presented and featuring the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models in at least 14 events of stock car racing.  On Saturday, August 28th it will be another doubleheader show for the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models with Kreiser Racing Fuels sponsoring the night. The point chase, at present, is scheduled to close out with Chad Sinon Motorsports/BPG Racing Night on Saturday, September 4th.
Coming up on Thursday, September 9th is the always exciting T.H.Properties Freedom 76 Golf Classic at Gilbertsville, PA Golf Course. And then on Saturday, September 11th the biggest show of the season will feature the Modifieds in the $20,000 to win T.H.Properties Freedom 76. Lap sponsorships are available at just $10.00 per lap by contacting Ernie Saxton at 215.752.7797.
Fans and racers are reminded that raffle tickets are now available that could win them a trip for two as part of the annual Champion?s Trip in late November. This year the trip goes to Aruba for eight days and seven nights. Raffle tickets for the trip (the trip is valued at more than $3000 and is for two people) are priced at $20.00 each. Just 150 tickets are being sold. Each feature stock car feature winner on Saturday nights receives a free chance on the trip courtesy of Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc.
