BECHTELSVILLE, PA ~??Over the years there have been some great racing talents win the Forrest Rogers Memorial,? said Grandview Speedway track announcer Ernie Saxton. ?I have announced all 38 of them. I have seen Fred Rahmer (now a standout sprint car racer), Billy Pauch (a dirt track racing legend), Charley Gilmore, Eddie Mumford (he won the first two); Craig VonDohren, Meme DeSantis, Ray Swinehart and many others win this classic NASCAR 358 modified stock car race. I may get to announce a rookie winning the race this Saturday night.?
?The Forrest Rogers Memorial is a 50-lap race for 358 modifieds this Saturday, August 1st at Grandview Speedway paying $10,000 to win.
?This season has seen some very talented rookies come along with two standouts being Addison Meitzler, winner of his first feature last Saturday after just nine feature race appearances, and Kyle Follweiler (his dad Jack won in 1985 and 1987). Follweiler led the feature last Saturday for many laps before a flat tire put him out of the race. Meitzler was able to take over and ride to victory with Jeff Strunk chasing him in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 modified feature.
?In addition to some standout rookies there are some other young talents including Brad Missimer (he earned a third last Saturday after leading), Mike Gular, Billy Pauch Jr. (a winner this season), Tommy Scheetz Jr. and a host of others that could take home the $10,000 first place money.
?Duane Howard, one of the top modified racers in the area, has never won the Forrest Rogers Memorial, a race that is named in memory of the man who had the idea for the track, planned it and built it, and is looking to change that this Saturday when the 50-lap race is presented.
?Point leader Jeff Strunk, a winner twice of this event, will be looking for his third while his nemesis Craig VonDohren will be seeking his? fourth win as he defends his 2008 victory. Ray Swinehart searches for his fourth victory in one of the most prestigious modified events being run in this area.
?Others that have won the Forrest Rogers Memorial Classic that will be entered include Jason Hamilton, Jon Kellner Sr., Terry Meitzler and Kerry Kratz.
?There had been some question as to where Ryan Godown would be racing this weekend but that has been cleared up and the popular modified talent has plans to race in the Forrest Rogers Memorial.
?There is a stellar lineup of racing talent ready to challenge the one-third-mile, banked clay oval in search of a win in the rich classic. With $10,000 waiting for the winner you can just imagine the battle that will be going on as twenty eight racers start the 50-lap race.
?The late model stock cars, always an exciting show, will also be part of the doubleheader night of racing action with a 7:30 p.m. starting time.
?Adult admission is just $20 while youngsters, 6 through 11, can enter for $5 and children under 6 are admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes as $25 with a NASCAR license.
?Coming up on Saturday, August 8th is Hatfield Quality Meats Night featuring the NASCAR 358 modifieds and late models. Crowd favorite Smiley, the Hatfield mascot, will be on hand.
?The first time appearance of the World of Outlaws late models will take place on Thursday, August 13th with the big block modifieds as an added attraction for the 7:30 p.m. doubleheader.
