BECHTELSVILLE, PA ~ Surviving the challenge of lapped cars Mike Kellner was able to drive his Banes Roofing/FHG Services No. 57 to victory in the 20-lap RCN-TV NASCAR Late Model feature race on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. The win was the third of the season for the young Lansdale, PA racer. The 30-lap feature for NASCAR 358 Modifieds was postponed after just one lap of racing and four separate caution periods for accidents. With the 28 car field getting into position for a restart after a caution that was caused by a Bill Gensler spin in front of the field, heavy rain caused the balance of the feature to be postponed until Saturday, July 18th at 7:30 p.m.
?The postponed modified feature race will be the first event of the night followed by a full show of 358 Modifieds and Late Models making up Robert Guinther Night presented by BPG Racing.
?In a very quick 20-lap feature for the late model stock cars rookie Nate Christman was able to charge to the front of the pack with Bill Henning challenging. On the fourth circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay track Henning was able to take the lead. Two laps later Kurt Spotts brought out the caution with a spin in turn two closing up the field on the leader.
?Chuck Schutz brought out the caution on the eighth lap when he came to a stop in turn one done for the night.
?At the halfway mark Henning had mechanical problems forcing him to slow his pace and giving the top spot to Mike Kellner.
?Once in front the young Kellner was able to hold on and grab the checkered flag for his third win of the season. Second spot went to Nate Christman (Oley) for his best finish of the season. Third place went to past champion Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville) followed by Ron Kline (Salfordville) and three time past champion John Giesler (Aston).
?Kellner praised his crew and thanked his sponsors in victory lane but also was critical of the lapped cars that did create problems for the leaders.
?Qualifying heats for the late models were won by Bill Henning, Chuck Schutz and Nate Christman.
?Heats for the modifieds were won by Bill Gensler, Mike Laise, Todd Marburger and Jeremy Banos. The consolation races went to Ryan Godown and John Willman.
?The Cornerstone Auto Sales Hard Charger Award for the late models went to Ron Kline who gained 14 sports in the feature coming from 18th to fourth. Mike Kellner got the Dan?s Deli Halfway Award and Cargo Trailer Sales gave a $50 gift certificate to 10th place finisher Wayne Pfeil.
?Saturday, July 18th Robert Guinther Night presented by BPG Racing will include the NASCAR 358 Modifieds along with the Late Models. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. There will be two features for the modifieds and a 20-lap feature for the Late Models.
