Bechtelsville, Pa. ? The finish for the second Saturday night in a row at Grandview Speedway saw Duane Howard victorious in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Racing Series modified feature by a health margin over runner-up and defending point champion Jeff Strunk in the event sponsored by Auto Locator. The win was Howard?s third of the season at the 1/3-mile Berks County oval.

Polesitter and rookie Joe Masiado took the early lead on the initial start with Bobby Gunther-Walsh, Marc Fehr, John Willman and Cliff Quinn in pursuit of the lead.

Brad Brightbill spun in the third turn with six laps completed to bring out the first caution. Masiado continued his pace on the restart, but now Quinn was challenging him for first.

The lead changed hands on the ninth lap restart needed when Shawn Reimert stopped in the first turn to cause the yellow to be thrown. Quinn became the new pacesetter when action resumed while Howard, who was on the move from his 14th starting grid, took over second to pressure Quinn for the spot.

A four-car homestretch tangle caused another caution on the 10th lap. This restart saw Howard take the high line, which he felt the ?top groove was the place to run,? and put the BPG No. 4 into the lead.

The red had to be thrown on the 11th lap when Todd Smith, who had such a strong run the previous week, rolled in the first turn with Danny Hieber almost going over but came back down on all four wheels, Stewart Friesen was in the first turn wall and Brightbill was also involved. All drivers were uninjured and Brightbill was the only one able to continue.

It was still Howard the leader on the restart, but now Craig Von Dohren was in second putting his bids in for first.

The battle behind Howard was an intense one between Von Dohren, Doug Manmiller, Jeff Strunk and Mike Gular.

Once again Von Dohren was plagued with tire problems as a flat right rear tire forced him to pull into the infield on the 24th lap relinquishing second to Strunk.

Everyone was given an opportunity to get on Howard?s back bumper as the field regrouped when a tire was launched onto the track between the third and fourth turn for the final caution on the 26th lap. Hoard wasted no time pulling away on the restart leaving Strunk, Manmiller, Gular and Meme DeSantis take chase.

Once Howard put the Alex?s Lemonade/Troyer chassis mount at the front of the pack he never looked back and at the wave of the checkered he pulled into the winner?s circle to chalk up another win. Following him across were Strunk, Manmiller, Gular and DeSantis, who received the Cornerstone Auto Sales Hard Charger Award as he came from 26th to fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Willman, Kerry Kratz, Terry Meitzler, Kevin Hirthler, who took a provisional and Todd Marburger.
