SUNSHINE GAVE HOPE AND MA NATURE WASHED IT OUT AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA MAY 31, 2003 . . . There was sunshine in the Grandview Speedway area for a couple days but Ma Nature showed that she is not an auto racing fan as she brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Berks County oval on Saturday afternoon washing out the weekly show of NASCAR stock car racing.
“There for a while it looked like we might get a break on the weather. This is our second rainout in a row and our fourth of the season. Actually we have only had one or two really good Saturday nights when it comes to weather conditions. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for the Zuber Realty Co. URC sprint and NASCAR Modified show. This is always a very popular show with the fans. Two of the most popular forms of racing in the area on the same night make for a great show. Now all we need is for Ma Nature to cooperate,” said event organizer Bruce Rogers.
The Rossi Welding sponsored event that was rained out will be rescheduled for later in the season. The United Racing Club Advance Auto Parts sprint cars will have at least 30 of the powerful and exciting sprint cars on hand to challenge the one-third-mile, banked clay Grandview Speedway on Saturday night.
Heading up the action will be sprint car standouts such as Dave Ely, winner of three features this season, Bill Brian Jr., Midge Miller, Mike Haggenbottom, Trevor Lewis, Brian Seidel, Randy West, Scott Pursell and many others.
And the NASCAR Modifieds will feature point leader Jeff Strunk, Meme DeSantis, Jon Kellner, multi time champion Craig VonDohren, Ray Swinehart and a host of others. A regular Saturday night modified show attracts more than 50 of the hard charging racers to try for the 29 starting spots in the 30-lap feature race.
On Saturday, June 14, the U.S.Army will be in town. Fans will have the opportunity to enlist right at the track when the U.S. Army sponsors the doubleheader show of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds and Late Models.
Each Saturday night fans have the opportunity to win a ride in the specially prepared two seats modified. Two rides are given away each Saturday night to lucky fans and often times the winner has the opportunity to have their favorite driver in the car and given them the thrill of a lifetime.
Fans who are NASCAR members are reminded that the Craftsman Mechanic of the Year voting is now going on. Voting can be done at Grandview Speedway.
