Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Jason Hamilton, hailing from Erwinna, Pa., was at the right spot when the track lights at Grandview Speedway went out on Saturday night which was accompanied by lightning and heavy thunderstorms that hit the oval with 25-laps of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Racing Series modified feature complete. Since enough laps were recorded, Hamilton was declared the winner of the event sponsored by Arnold?s Go-Kart.

Shawn Merkel wasted no time taking over the early lead trailed by Mike Laise, Hamilton, Tom Umbenhauer and Danny Hieber.

The order behind Merkel at the conclusion of five laps consisted of Laise, Hamilton, Umbenhauer and Kerry Kratz.

One lap later Hamilton overtook second to take chase after Merkel, who had pulled away from the pack.

A multi-car third turn tangle brought out the first yellow on the 11th lap. Hamilton outgunned Merkel on the restart to take over the lead with Kratz, Ryan Godown and Umbenhauer third through fifth.

Kratz overtook second on the 14th lap and set his sights on Hamilton and the lead while Merkel, Godown and Umbenhauer jockeyed for the remaining positions.

Hamilton approached lap traffic by the 22nd lap, but that didn?t deter his momentum and he continued to be chased by Kratz, Jeff Strunk, Godown and Merkel.

Just as the field took the five laps to go signal, lightning struck somewhere in the area which affected some of the track lighting. Luckily the signal lights were working and the red could be thrown plus they could be guided via in car radio. While the cars were stopped on the track, the skies opened up ? drivers were directed back to the pit area and the race was called official. Hamilton was declared the winner for his first win of the season at the track coming off from a victory the previous night at Big Diamond Raceway, Minersville. Finishing second was Kratz followed by Strunk, Godown and Umbenhauer.
