SCHAFFER NEW MODIFIED WIN LEADER AT
The Zuber Realty sponsored Modified feature saw Bobby Trapper charge to the front at the drop of the green but the lead was short-lived as Kyle Weiss, coming from third starting spot, got the top spot on the fourth circuit of the one-third-mile, clay banked oval. Weiss kept the Schaeffer?s Harley Davidson #21K in front until the 12th lap when Schaffer (Woxall) was able to move to the front of the field. Once in front Schaffer had his hands full as current point leader Craig VonDohren, a two feature winner, was right on his rear. For the final 10 laps it was a nip-and-tuck battle with Schaffer able to edge out VonDohren (Oley) for the victory. The win put Schaffer on top as the all-time leading Modified feature winner with 51 career victories. Second spot went to VonDohren followed by Doug Manmiller (Wyomissing) for one of his best efforts of the season. Fourth went to Jon Kellner Sr. (
?We tried something new tonight. It was a setup that we had never used before and it seemed to work. We still have a long way to go though,? said Schaffer in victory lane.
Mike Steinmetz, who had not been to victory lane in 23 years, put his Johnny & Hons Restaurant #91 in front of the pack at the drop of the green and kept it there for 17 laps. The veteran racer, he got out of the sport for a few years, held off some very serious efforts by Lee Miller, Junior Grebe and others but with three laps to go saw Chris Shuey charge past him in the second turn on the outside.
Steinmetz did not make it easy for Shuey as he kept the pressure on. However with just two laps to go Steinmetz and Randy Stoudt got into an incident in turn four with Steinmetz almost losing control of his car and Stoudt spinning.
