BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 21, 2003 . . . It was about this time last year that drought conditions prevailed and area speedways faced serious problems because of the lack of water. This year area speedways are facing serious problems again, only this time it is because of too much water.

For the sixth time this season heavy rains forced the cancellation of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series stock car racing at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. Four inches of rain fell at the track on Friday and showers continued throughout the day on Saturday forcing promoter Bruce Rogers to surrender to Ma Nature early in the afternoon.

“To be truthful I doubt we could have done anything with the track even if it hadn’t rained today. We needed a lot of sunshine and no rain to get the track ready for racing and that just was not going to happen. This is the worst weather I can remember in all the years I have been in this business. We will probably have to make some adjustments in our schedule of events if we lose any additional Saturday events,” said Rogers.

The Deka Batteries Night, planned for Saturday, will be rescheduled for later in the season.

This Saturday, June 28th, 7:30 p.m. Dodge, sponsor of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, will sponsor the doubleheader show of Modifieds and Late Models.

On Sunday night, June 29th, 7:30 p.m. the powerful and exciting 410 sprint cars will be the main attraction as the PA. Sprint Speedweek Series visits Grandview Speedway. And the ARDC Ray’s Yamaha/Polaris Victory Wingless Midgets will be part of the Sunday night show that has a Monday, June 30th rain date.

The Late Models will be in the limelight on Saturday, July 5th, when the annual Firecracker 40 Late Model Championship is presented. The race will be run in memory of the late Jerry Glase, a long time track employee who lost a battle with cancer last September. Glase had been a fixture at the track for more than 30 years and was a key employee. The NASCAR Modifieds will also be part of this special event. And an added attraction will be a spectacular fireworks display.
