Bechtelsville, Pa. ? Following a lengthy rain-delay on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway, the 358 NASCAR Whelen All-American series modified took to the track to participate in the running of the 42nd annual Forrest Rogers Memorial. The 50-lap event was sponsored by Pioneer Pole Building and broadcast by RCN TV-4 Allentown.

Lady Luck was finally on Kevin Hirthler?s side as the Boyertown resident drove his own, Green Lane/Wm. Penn No. 117 to his first victory in the event and also of the season. Hirthler didn?t have an easy time as he endured restarts, lap cars and pressure from runner-up Doug Manmiller before he put the 4-Star Lettering mount in victory lane. Being a regular, Hirthler received $20,000 for the win in addition to lap money, $200 from T.P. Trailers, dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse, Wyomissing, plus a guaranteed starting spot in the BPG Freedom 76 in September.

A multi-car second turn/backstretch accident brought out the yellow before one lap could be completed.

Ron Seltmann Jr., outside polesitter, took the initial lead trailed by Jason Clauss, Jon Kellner Jr., Mike Laise and Hirthler, who started first, third, fourth and sixth respectively.

Hirthler advanced to second on the fifth lap restart needed when Tommy Scheetz III and Brad Missimer tangled in the first turn. Seltmann Jr. was still in command on the restart with Hirthler leaving him know he was there.

Bridgeport invader Rick Laubach and Ray Swinehart, last week?s feature winner, brought out the seventh lap caution after they collided along the homestretch. Swinehart continued, but Laubach went pit side and was out of contention. Hirthler charged into first when action went green again and immediately began distancing himself from the pack.

The front runners comprised of Hirthler, Seltmann Jr., John Willman, Kellner Jr. and Manmiller, 12th-place starter had to deal with lap traffic by the 15th lap.
