BECHTELSVILLE, PA JULY 22, 2006 . . . ?We just may have to consider boat racing here at Grandview Speedway,? said track owner and promoter Bruce Rogers. ?We have been inundated with rain in our area. We have had more than a foot of rain in the last month and it seems like it all happens on weekends.?
Rain again washed out NASCAR stock car racing at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. Scheduled was one of the most popular sponsor events of the season with Hatfield Quality Meats planning to offer free samples of some of their great products along with free prizes for fans plus an appearance of their mascot, Smiley, who is always popular with the kids.
Efforts will be made to reschedule the Hatfield Quality Meats Night but with a total of six Saturday night rainouts so far this season the chances of finding a new night for them this season is not looking good.
NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models will return to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, July 29th with the running of 3M Night presented by Jesse Baro Trucking. At least 13 events of stock car racing are planned for the 7:30 p.m. show.
?With the rainouts there has be a concern for some of the racers who were counting on those events to make a charge toward the front in the lucrative NASCAR point battles,? said Rogers. ?Each race canceled is a lost opportunity for those racers to close in on the leaders. We have very close point battles in both the Modifieds and the Late Models.?
Doug Manmiller is looking toward winning his first track championship in the Modifieds but he has just a 67 point edge over Meme DeSantis and a 184 point edge over third place Jon Kellner. Five time Modified champion Jeff Strunk has mounted a charge toward the front with five wins and is less than 500 points behind and with the new handicapping system that is in place and most of the top runners having used all their provisional starts just about anything could happen.
In the Late Models Chuck Schutz is in front of the point battle going after his third track title. Randy Stoudt, winner of four features this season, is second just 134 points behind. Harry Neiman is third while defending titleholder Ron Kline holds fourth and Brian Shuey is fifth. Less than 200 points separates the top five.
Coming up is a rich event for the NASCAR Modifieds with the Stauffer Construction Forrest Rogers Memorial being presented on Saturday, August 5th. This is a 50-lapper that pays $10,000 to the winner.  The race is named in honor of the man who had the dream, created the plan and built the one-third-mile, banked clay oval that opened in 1963. The event always attracts a large field of entries.  The Late Models will also be part of the 7:30 p.m. show.
Grandview Speedway is a one-third-mile banked clay oval located on Passmore Road just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For racing information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www. Fans are invited to sign up for the monthly FAN NEWS at the website.
