On Saturday, August 19th, a collection will be taken up in the grandstands and in the pits at Grandview Speedway for Kenny Gilmore and his family. This will be on the night of the Allstate sponsored Modified and Late Model doubleheader. The Late Models will run in a 30-lapper dedicated to the memory of Carol Heckman (a long time scorer at Grandview), Jerry Glase (an employee of the speedway for more than 30 years) and Chuck Sennott (a fine Late Model racer who was fatally injured at another speedway). The 30-lapper for Late Models will pay $1,000 to win thanks to the efforts of Mark Garman.
Sometimes the best plans do not work out as expected. On August 5th an attempt was made to take up a collection for Kenny Gilmore. For those who are not aware Kenny and his mom, Doris, along with Kenny?s son Brett, were involved in an auto accident. Doris was fatally injured. Kenny suffered some injuries that will keep him out of work for quite a while. Brett had minor injuries and is OK. To say the plans did not go as well as expected would be an understatement even though close to $700 was collected.
The Gilmore family has been an important part of auto racing at Grandview Speedway for many years. Kenny has been an outstanding competitor at Grandview for several years.
On August 19TH we will ask all drivers, those that would like to, to be part of a collection effort for the Kenny Gilmore family. Drivers will be asked to go through the grandstands with their helmets.
