THUNDER ON HILL GEARS UP FOR 32ND YEAR AT GRANDVIEW, NAPA BACK AS SERIES SPONSOR, LEVAN MACHINE & TRUCK EQUIPMENT RETURNS AS ASSOCIATE SPONSOR

BECHTELSVILLE, PA   .  .   .   .   .  Thunder on the Hill returns to Grandview Speedway for its’ thirty-second  season in 2021.   

In the summer of 1990, Grandview Speedway owners Bruce and Theresa Rogers, Modified/Sprint Car Champion Dave Kelly and racing publicist Bob Miller met at the Bally Hotel to discuss running a 410 sprint car show at Grandview Speedway in August of 1990.   The group discussed the challenges of such a show as well as the potential rewards if that first race comes off a success.   Needless to say, the show was a big win even after battling the weather for most of the day of the event.   The 410 sprint stand alone show saw Stevie Smith and his Black Bandit #19 parked in the Grandview victory lane collecting the $5,000 winner’s share. With just one feature win scored by each Craig Von Dohren and Brian Hirthler were able to use consistency to earn the Grandview Speedway NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series titles. Von Dohren, who calls Oley, PA home, earned the T.P. Trailers NASCAR Modified title for the 11th time with his first being earned in 1988. HIRTHLER, BELTZ & HOWARD TOP 50 CAR FIELD OF MODIFIEDS TO SHARE TRIPLE 20 WINS SATURDAY NIGHT IN THUNDER SERIES AT GRANDVIEW

Bechtelsville, PA (October 17, 2020) – Three different winners topped the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Trick or Treat Triple 20s for Modifieds at Grandview Speedway on Saturday Night – with Kevin Hirthler, Ryan Beltz, and Duane Howard picking up the Modified wins. Kevin Hirthler would add a Sportsman victory to his tally for the night, winning that 20-lap event, as well.   A field of fifty Modifieds took part in the event along with thirty-three  Sportsman.  This was the third event of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series of 2020 at Grandview in a season abbreviated by the current virus.  On a cold night for racing, the  show started promptly at 6 PM and the final checker flag fell before 9:30 PM.   This also allowed many race fans to visit their favorite drivers in the pits. JEFF STRUNK EARNS POT OF GOLD WITH 8TH FREEDOM 76 VICTORY IN THE 50TH ANNUAL EVENT

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 20, 2020 . . . It seems as if Jeff Strunk rises to the top in big money paying events. Saturday night in the 50th Annual Freedom 76, a 76-lap Modified race started by the late promoter Bruce Rogers in 1971, the 10 time T.P.Trailers NASCAR track Modified point champion held true to form performing in front of a huge crowd. A fierce battle with guaranteed starter Brett Kressley, winner of the Forrest Rogers Memorial, started on the 37th lap after Strunk reeled him in and it wasn’t until the 64th lap that Strunk actually succeeded in becoming the fourth different leader. Trailers Modified NASCAR Advance Auto Parts feature win of the season on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway when he passed his father-in-law Ray Swinehart on the 21st lap and was able to hold off ten time track champion Jeff Strunk and then runner-up Dillon Steuer for the win. Even though Hirthler has won features this year he has struggled with mechanical and other issues and he assured the fans in victory lane that he has not been “sandbagging” or wrecking just to get a better starting spot. RYAN LILICK WINS CAREER FIRST MODIFIED RACE, THE “HARD CHARGER CHALLENGE”; KEVIN HIRTHLER WINS T.P.TRAILERS MODIFIEED FEATURE FOR THIRD WIN OF THE SEASON AND TOM MILLER TOPS IN SPORTSMAN

Saturday night stock car racing at Grandview Speedway got off to a big start with young Ryan Lilick able to drive to victory in the 22 lap “Hard Charger Challenger” giving him his first career Modified victory. Finishing second was Richie Hitzler who led the early laps. Dan Waisempacher came home third. Kevin Hirthler topped the 28 car starting field in the 30-lap T.P.Trailers NASCAR Modified feature giving him his third win of the season. Dillon Steuer came home a close second followed by Jeff Strunk. Closing out the night was the Tom Miller winning the 25-lap T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman feature race becoming the 11th different feature winner in that division. With just five laps to go in the 30-lap T.P.Trailers NASCAR Modified race Brett Kressley took the top spot and lead the rest of the way to win his third Modified feature of the season at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night after rain showers delayed the racing action early in the evening. Second spot went to Mike Gular. Veteran racer Ryan Beltz drove to his fifth career T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman 25-lap feature victory and became the 10th different feature winner of the season in that division. AUGUST 16, 2020 . . .  Jeff Strunk, the “Bechtelsville Bullet,” has been running a Teo chassis car for the past several years and had his share of ups and downs which did include several successful campaigns. Saturday night at Grandview Speedway, the Glenn Hyneman-owned No. 126 team unveiled a brand new Bicknell mount that the crew built in a week. It was fast right off the trailer as he started the evening activities with a win in the third qualifying heat. The 10-time point champion started 12th in the 30-lap T.P. Trailers Modified NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts feature and by the 11th lap he overtook Ray Swinehart for the lead. Strunk wove his way through lapped traffic in the later stages and went on to score his first win of the season by a 6.497 margin over runner-up Mike Gular, also a past champion who also received the Hard Charger award charging from 19th to second. BECHTELSVILLE, PA   JULY 13, 2020  .  .   .   .   .  In 2019, the NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget Series invaded the Grandview Speedway as part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.   The thirty lap USAC Midget event, dubbed the Ken Brenn Midget Masters was nothing short of a barn-burner as Chris Windom and Tyler “Sunshine” Courtney battled for the victory.  Windom of Canton, IL prevailed the winner to claim the first ever, Ken Brenn Midget Masters at Grandview.   Both Windom and Courtney (Indianapolis, IN)  will be in the field at Grandview on Tuesday night, August 4 when the USAC Midgets team up with the 358 NASCAR Modifieds for this Thunder on the Hill Double Header. KYLE LARSON MAKES THE MOVE ON FREDDIE RAHMER TO WIN THE HODNETT CUP AND POCKET $10,000, RYAN WATT TOPS MODIFIEDS

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (June 30, 2020) – A late race slider led Elks Grove, California’s Kyle Larson to a $10,000 win in the Pennsylvania 410 Sprint Car Speed Week event presented by Red Robin.   Ryan Watt of Boyertown, PA picked up the NASCAR 358 Modified victory and $3,000  at Grandview Speedway on Tuesday Night, as part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.   With scattered showers over Grandview Speedway from noon to 7 PM the track crew and staff of Thunder on the Hill was determined to get this event in the books,  and they did.   The win also earned Kyle Larson his place on the Greg Hodnett Cup and perpetual trophy.   Hodnett, a six time Thunder Champion  and nine time Thunder on the Hill feature winner was remembered Tuesday night after losing his life in a racing accident in 2018. It has been a long wait, but the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series should finally open and will showcase one of the premier events of the series,   Speed Week  for the 410 Sprints plus 358 NASCAR Modifieds, taking place at the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 30.    The show will start at 7:30 PM with gates opening at 5 PM.    The  410 sprints will take part in Time Trials, heat race events and a “B” Main leading up to the 35 lap  Hodnett Cup feature event.   For the 358 NASCAR Modifieds, they’ll be competing under their weekly rules and will qualify through heat race events, a  consolation and a 30 lap main event that will carry NASCAR points. PA Governor Wolf has ordered all non-life sustaining businesses closed at this time.
